I am sure this will not come as a surprise, but we have had to make the difficult decision to postpone the A Different Way: Symposium which was scheduled for the 29th April. We realise that this will be disappointing news, however we aim to reschedule the event in Autumn 2020.
We have been keeping a careful eye on the news and official recommendations for the past couple of weeks, as well as speaking with our partners and creative teams, and have come to the conclusion that postponing the Symposium is now unavoidable.
The Disabled community faces heightened risks during any public health crisis when it becomes more difficult to access healthcare, and particularly during this one when many Disabled people identify themselves within the ‘at risk’ category.
In order to create a safe environment for you, our team and our young participants we are cancelling all upcoming creative activities planned in the lead up to the Symposium and postponing the Symposium until later in the year when we will have completed that creative work and can bring people together safely.
We have been honestly delighted by the response from the sector to this Symposium. We were up to 85% capacity in under a month. This response has reaffirmed our understanding of not only how important it is to get beyond the basics of access and inclusion and develop Disabled-led theatre for young audiences, but also that our sector is ready and willing to make that change.
With that in mind we are planning to share a peek behind the scenes of the creative process so far with everyone who booked a ticket, as a small thank you. We have documented a lot and have lots of insights to share about the practice of inclusion and working with Disabled artists. We’ll be figuring out the best ways to keep this conversation going and keep us all inspired during these uncertain and difficult times.
If you had booked a ticket you will have received an email from us about about your ticket options. If you have any questions then please do get in touch at email@example.com
During this crisis, Daryl Beeton Productions will continue to support our team and our community, and we will communicate further about the Symposium in the coming months.
Until then, please take care of yourselves, and each other, during these unprecedented times.
Best wishes, Daryl and the #ADiffWay team. x
